Shawfield Community

Giving back to the community both nationally and from John’s roots in Bradford is really important to our business. We’re delighted to support the following institutions and charities both through raising valuable funds and being present and hands on when needed.

Bradford Grammar School

Bradford Grammar School is one of the UK’s oldest independent schools, founded in 1548. The school educates pupils from 4-18 and has a strong reputation for academic excellence, sport, music and wider personal development.

As a former student (Old Bradfordian) John is delighted to support the school and the community, through events, competitions and importantly raising awareness of the 1662 Bursary Fund.

The 1662 Bursary Fund plays a vital role in providing financial assistance to talented students, ensuring that a Bradford Grammar School education is accessible regardless of background or means. For John, this is about investing in future generations and giving talented young people the chance to realise their potential.

SANE

Mental health affects us all, whether directly or through someone we care about.

That's why one of the charities we are proud to support is SANE, one of the UK's leading mental health charities.

Founded in 1986, SANE works to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness through emotional support, campaigning to reduce stigma, and promoting research into better treatments. The charity also operates SANEline, a specialist national out-of-hours mental health helpline, providing support to people experiencing crisis, distress or despair.

As a Trustee, John helps support the charity's long-term vision and governance, while also championing its fundraising efforts. With SANE relying heavily on voluntary donations to continue its work, every contribution helps ensure more people can access vital support when they need it most.

The Worshipful Company of Woolmen

John is a past Master of The Woolmen’s Company, one of the historic Livery Companies of the City of London, whose roots date back to the 12th century. Today, the organisation combines its rich heritage with a modern charitable mission, supporting education, sustainability, the Armed Forces, and initiatives linked to the wool and textile industries.

A major part of its work is delivered through its charitable arm, which funds a wide range of causes including bursaries, innovation awards, environmental initiatives, and grants that help young people and communities access new opportunities.

John’s involvement reflects a commitment not just to preserving tradition, but to actively contributing to the Woolmen’s wider philanthropic work - helping to raise funds and support initiatives that invest in people, skills, and long-term opportunity.

You’ll find John on the famous Sheep Drive every October raising awareness.

St. James's Place Charitable Foundation

Shawfield Private Wealth are huge fans of the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation and the work they do. We don’t only attend and participate in events run by the Foundation (such as Sports Days and Fundraising events) but also support them through a regular donation from John and the team, which we know is put towards some incredible causes.

We are delighted that the Foundation have also supported us by providing grants over the years to charities that are important to our clients, such as Sane.
